thermal runaway
Models and Boundary Conditions associated with the thermal runaway of a lithium-ion battery cell.
The thermalRunawayModel is applied to the ‘jellyroll’ of the battery cell and calculates its solid-state thermal runaway. The pressureBuildUpModel calculates the pressure build up due to the gas and temperature releases by the thermal runaway, and calculates the boundary conditions for the vent outlet in a gas phase coupled simulation.
The pressureBuildUpVelocity implements the boundary condition which applies boundary the pressureBuildUpModel and is required to be set in the ‘gas’ phase region where the vent is located. The pressureBuildUpPressure and pressureBuildUpTemperature boundary conditions are not required (but are advised), and depends on a pressureBuildUpVelocity being applied to the same boundary.
The heSolidThermoCFDEM objects implements a massLossModel that can be configured to reduce the mass within the solid ‘jellyroll’ region of the lithium-ion battery cell.
